TV news needs newspapers

Once again, I offer a comic strip from the 1980s to demonstrate that old saw, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

When I was a TV news assignment editor, reporters were expected to come to work with at least one idea for a story each day.

Sadly, they routinely came in with newspaper clippings. (The really savvy ones would steal their ideas from out-of-town newspapers.)

It’s still just the same today.
